Every two years, Open Fields School auctions off approximately 100 intricately decorated goose, ostrich, and duck eggs. One of the school's most exciting events, the Great Goose Egg Auction brings together the creative skills artists from all over the world and the hard work of many volunteers and sponsors to provide an exciting day of bidding. This year, 2008, I got to decorate a goose egg for the auction. The title of the decorated egg is:"?" When I started creating the decoration I had a vision of the surprised goose, looking at this huge egg, maybe it is an egg, maybe it is an egg shaped pearl, the ambiguity was the focus and the fact that the goose was going to adopt the egg no matter what. I had a hard time finding a base, I made several bases out of twigs, clay and ropes but finally found this Mangrove driftwood that fitted perfectly. The mangrove driftwood gave the decorated egg a new poetic dimension, something about the driftwood being washed to the shore and the pearl resonated with each other and had a chemistry with the goose sculpture. This ended in naming the piece"?" a question mark, open to interpretations.
